Letters of Recommendation
When asking for a letter of recommendation, be it for an academic program or a job, ask yourself a few questions:
Does this person know me well enough to write something meaningful? Have they worked with me for more than a few months?
Has this person seen a variety of my work, e.g., during classes, research studies, and/or internships/projects?
Can they speak to my communication skills, both oral and written? - Do they understand my goals and passions?
The better the answers to the above, the more likely the person's letter of recommendation can have the details to be effective for you.
If, after the above questions, you think I might be a good fit to write a letter for you, please send ask me via email. I am generally happy to write letters or fill out the surveys requested by some programs.
To help me be more effective, request the following information from you:
Current transcript
Current Resume or C.V.
A short paragraph on your career goals and interests and why applying to the program is a good fit for you.
A link to the program website
The expected timing of your application.
Links to your personal webpage, GitHub site, and LinkedIn profile if they exist.
I will let you know if I am able to support your request.
Please keep my up to date on your progress and I will let you know when I have responded to inquiries from the programs.
Good Luck!
